We're in Pontesbury, looking down Workhouse Bank to Birch Row, which is the black and white building of which we can see the gable end. The photo was loaned by Ev Corfield, who hails from Pontesbury, but who lives in Whittington now. She gives a 1920s date, although it is a Wilding's postcard and many of those were somewhat earlier.

The River Severn at Shrewsbury looks rather low, doesn't it? That could be a clue as to the date, as the weir at Shrewsbury, keeping up the water level, was built between 1910 and 1912.
