Nostalgia pictures – week ending August 7, 2010

"Rosemary Court" it says on the lintel, which is about the only clue we've got to this production by a Shrewsbury amateur dramatics group from yesteryear. There may however be folk around who recognise relatives  or perhaps even themselves  to help pin down the details. The date is likely to be around the 1930s. This official photograph by British Railways dated February 6, 1949 - the year after nationalisation  shows how the new organisation set about upgrading the track network, in this case the Wellington to Much Wenlock line at Ketley. The caption says: "Permanent way staff laying concrete sleepers at Ketley with a special rig." Passenger services on the former Great Western Railway branch line ended on July 21, 1962. The photo is from Shropshire Railway Society president Russell Mulford.
