Nostalgia – week ending July 9
Friday 9th July 2010, 10:12AM BST.
"This was the scene just after 500 tons of scrap tyres erupted into flames at Spout Farm, Malinslee, near Dawley, yesterday," reported the Shropshire Star of October 26, 1964. "Three East Shropshire fire brigades (sic) sped to the fire, which is believed to have been started by children. Thousands of people from all over the West Midlands went to see the blaze which lasted for nearly 24 hours. The tyre dump was still smouldering this afternoon."
