Nostalgia: Week ending July 3

The Lancasterian School at Shrewsbury used to hold concerts in Shrewsbury Music Hall, and this is one of them, dating from around the first few years of the 20th century. Look closely and you can see that there is an American flag in front of the stage for some reason. This photo comes to us from Shrewsbury historian David Trumper, but was actually given to him by Alan Harper, who was the last headteacher of the Lancasterian School. The print actually has a big oval hole in it, upper right why, we don’t know, but Dave thinks it might have included an inset picture of a contemporary headmaster. We have lightly filled in the gap to make the photo more presentable for publication. The Lancasterian School was, says Dave, named after Joseph Lancaster.
