The main subject of this photo taken at Shrewsbury swimming baths is not what you might expect. Your eye is supposed to be drawn to the rubber mats, as this is an old publicity shot from rubber matting firm Nuway, of Coalport.
It was e-mailed in by Paul France who says: “On the back of the picture it says, ‘Nuway Diving Board Mats in Sturdy pattern with nosings around edges. Supplied to Shrewsbury Baths.’ Interestingly, it continues, ‘Negative in possession of the Wellington Journal.’ There’s no date, but I’d guess it’s the 1950s.”
