The crash happened on a rural stretch of the A442 between Shrewsbury and Telford this morning.

The road is currently closed.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the junction of the A442 and River Lane near Waters Upton.

Paramedics, police, and firefighters were called just after 10am and the road was closed as a result.

The woman's car was the only vehicle involved in the crash and was left with major damage.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When crews arrived, they found a car which was badly damaged from the RTC, with the driver, a woman, inside.

“Sadly, nothing could be done to save her, and she was confirmed deceased on scene.”

Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent and two fire engines were sent from Wellington along with an operations officer.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "At around 10.15am today police were called to the A442, Waters Upton to reports of a collision.

"The incident is ongoing and officers are maintaining road closures to support the ambulance and fire services."

Sergeant Alexander Saxton said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this difficult time. An investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the collision.”
