Driver cut free after lorry and car crash blocks A5 between Shrewsbury and Telford

A motorist was cut free by firefighters after a car and lorry crashed on the A5 between Shrewsbury and Telford today.

The dual carriageway was blocked between the Preston Boats island at Shrewsbury and Wellington after the crash which happened shortly after 2pm.

The emergency services shut the eastbound carriageway, with drivers urged to avoid the area.

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service said crews used specialist cutters to release a man from one of the vehicles.

Five fire crews were sent from Shrewsbury, Telford Central and Wellington, along with police and the air ambulance.
