Plans to build 100 homes near Apley Woods in Telford have been deferred for further talks with the developer.

Construction giant Kier and the Homes and Community Agency were given outline permission for the houses off Peregrine Way in 2015 and hoped to get the nod for detailed designs including access.

But at last night's Telford & Wrekin planning committee dozens of residents turned out in protest.

Jonathan Harris, of Apley Preservation Association, said: "This development alone will put huge pressure on an already struggling infrastructure. The proposed design is too dense, does not integrate with established street patterns, has angular access roads and poor distribution of house types and will destroy the last remaining open aspect of Apley Woods.

"There is no justification to build on a green area that borders a wildlife site."
