New public inquiry over Telford homes plan

A fresh public inquiry concerning controversial plans to build scores of new homes in Telford will be held in April, it has been revealed.

The public inquiry will deal with plans for 110 homes, on a site in Muxton Lane, Muxton, and alternatively for 78 dwellings on a smaller part of the site.

It comes after Greg Clarkm Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, overturned a decision to reject the project following an appeal by Cheshire-based applicants Gladman Developments Ltd.

Telford & Wrekin Council's planning committee has been informed of the date for the new public inquiry in a report, which is set to be put before councillors at a meeting next week.

It says: "One planning inquiry for 110 dwellings has already taken place in January 2016, but a second inquiry will take place in April 2017 as the original planning inspector's decision has been quashed. The new combined inquiry will consider both applications which are for 110 dwellings and alternatively for 78 dwellings on a smaller part of the site."

More than 500 people signed two petitions set up objecting to the proposed development.

Telford & Wrekin Council threw out this scheme in December 2014.

Then a revised scheme was also thrown out in October 2015 on the grounds that the proposals would cause significant and irreversible harm to the area.
