Up to 100 new homes could be built in a village near Oswestry, it was revealed today.
The plans are for Whittington, close to the village’s primary school. The site, between the school and the hamlet of Babbinswood, has been highlighted in Shropshire Council’s draft plans for future development, known as Samdev. This sets out how 16,000 homes would be built across the county by 2026.
Four landowners are in discussion over whether to put forward a planning application for a housing development on the 12-acre Whittington site.
David Parker, a planning expert who represents the landowners, said a design had been drawn up showing a range of properties, from semi-detached houses to apartments.
He said 13 per cent of the development would be classed as ‘affordable’ housing.
Mr Parker said: “It has the potential site for 88 houses or thereabouts. We have been holding discussions about the detail of the site and what the parish might want.”
Proposals are organised into 18 ‘Place Plan’ areas which cover the whole of the Shropshire Council area.
A meeting for the Oswestry area will be held on May 24 at the Memorial Hall.
There will be a drop-in session from 5.30pm to 7pm followed by a public meeting from 7pm to 9pm. All the plans can be viewed at shropshire.gov.uk/samdev
