Letter: Osborne's roles show us why parliament must be overhauled

George Osborne has found yet another niche position advising Global Investor BlackRock.

I would not even wish to take his advice regarding Premium Bonds or ISAs, let alone complex finance, considering he emphatically advised us that if we voted for Brexit, income tax would rise, interest rates would rise, jobs would be lost and the country would spiral into the apocalypse.

How can a representative of the people possibly attend to constituents' needs if not in full attendance of the House? If ever there was a need for an overhaul the parliamentary system then now is the time.

There are far too many MPs who do not attend during "opening hours" and the House of Lords is an overpaid bunch of cronies, many of whom have been political donors, appointed by successive prime ministers.

It is no wonder they fear a refurbishment because they might not be allowed to return. Many of the establishment have only been too quick to denigrate the rise of populism by attacking the peasants for daring to question their authority but if were not for the likes of us then the mainstream political elite would continue to govern with impunity.

This is even more prevalent across the Channel in Brussels and Strasbourg where they dare to question our democratic option to leave the bloated club where it is obvious they want us to stay so they can continue to milk us of our massive contribution.
