Lloyds Bank closure: Philip Dunne MP to try and save Broseley's last bank

Ludlow MP Philip Dunne has pledged to meet bank executives to try to save the last bank in Broseley closing.

He said elderly and vulnerable people need face to face banking services.

Lloyds Bank opens on Tuesdays and Fridays, and apart from the Post Office, which offers bank services, it is the last bank left standing in the town.

The bank has announced the branch will close on March 28, 2017, as it has just 25 regular customers.

Staff were informed of the impending closure last week, and Lloyds intends to redeploy all staff currently working at the Broseley branch to alternative Lloyds' branches. Lloyds are writing to customers to make them aware of the change.

Personal banking customers can use the local Post Office to check their balance, withdraw cash and make deposits to their account.

Mr Dunne said: "I deeply regret the decision by Lloyds to close their Broseley branch next year, particularly given it is the last bank branch in town.

"I am arranging to meet the bank's regional director to discuss whether this decision can be overturned.

"The background behind the planned closure is changing bank use, with more people using online services for personal or business banking.

"Declining need is reducing the rationale for physical branch locations. But while some services are available from the Post Office, elderly and vulnerable people often need cash facilities and face to face banking advice.

"So I hope Lloyds will look again at this decision and maintain their branch in Broseley, rather than require customers to travel to Bridgnorth or Telford."
