The next generation mobile phone technology is now available in Bridgnorth thanks to provider Vodafone, and has been welcomed by Philip Dunne, MP for Ludlow, whose constituency covers the area.

4G allows customers to browse the internet at speeds comparable to home broadband, making it much more powerful and suitable for smartphones and modern data usage needs.

Mr Dunne said it was just one example of "encouraging" moves to get south Shropshire connected and up to speed with regards to mobile coverage.

Mobile signal can be notoriously patchy in the region, particularly in more rural parts.

Mr Dunne said: "When discussing mobile signal and data across south Shropshire in my meetings with mobile providers, I am hearing encouraging talk of investment and rollout.

"It is now important this talk is delivered upon, and the rollout of Vodafone's 4G services to Bridgnorth is a welcome step for local residents and businesses.

"We should start to see further improvements across the Ludlow Constituency, as the Government signed a landmark deal with the four main mobile networks to invest £5 billion in the UK communications network, guaranteeing 90 percent of the UK's landmass will have mobile reception by 2017.

"Alongside other programmes, this will ensure that 98 percent of people will be able to get 4G mobile coverage by 2017."

Vodafone has invested more than £2 billion on its network and services since 2014 and expects to spend another £2 billion on them over the next three years, he said.

The company also recently introduced a Network Satisfaction Guarantee, giving new and upgrading customers the freedom of having 30 days to experience the strength and quality of the network before they fully commit.
