UKIP wins vacant Wellington Town Council seat

UKIP has won the vacant seat on Wellington Town Council after polling almost half of the vote.

Former Wellington mayor Denis Allen won the Dothill seat with 303 (46 per cent) of the 654 votes polled. The turnout was 32 per cent.

The by-election was called after the death of Councillor Lesley Street.

Labour candidate Margaret Malcom was second with 151 votes (23 per cent), followed by Conservative Edward Bird with 108 votes (17 per cent) and Liberal Democrat David Holloway with 90 votes (14 per cent). There were two spoiled papers.
