Sue Blackburn, head teacher of Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge CE Primary, would like to see a pelican crossing installed outside her school following the accident, but she said it would require "significant " capital investment.

Telford & Wrekin Council are reviewing the funding available.

Both Ms Blackburn and Ironbridge Gorge councillor Nicola Lowery have written to the council to update them on their plans.

Councillor Lowery said: "I am working closely with the head teacher and council to assess how we can improve safety on the local roads and within our school safety zone.

“Both the headteacher and I are keen to ensure steps are taken to improve road and pedestrian safety.

"I would like to reassure local residents and parents that a safety improvement scheme is being looked at to ensure changes are made to protect our community.”

Proposals have been made to extend the School Safety Zone and improve signage to beyond the two crossing facilities by the Co-op, Dale End and when approaching the school from Dale Road.

Parents are being invited to have their say on ideas that could make the area safer, or problems they may experience while trying to get their children to school.

A letter has been sent out to those with youngsters at Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge Primary with a survey to complete.

The survey asks what new schemes in the area local people would be happy to support.

Ideas include a lollipop crossing, to extend the railings by Dale End and to put posters out designed by the children to deter inappropriate parking.
