The fire on the Edgebold Industrial Estate in the middle of Hanwood broke out at 4.15pm on Monday.

More than 30 firefighters in six appliances went to the scene to be confronted by what Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service called a large fire.

Neil Griffiths, group manager for Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service, tweeted:

Police closed the A488 through the village and warned drivers to avoid the route from Shrewsbury to Pontesbury.

The fire services said crews from Baschurch, Shrewsbury, Telford Central, Tweedale and Wem went to the scene, including the aerial ladder platform. An incident command unit was also set up.

Ambulance crews were on standby at the estate.

Police tweeted: "Fire on A488 at Hanwood, just to West of Shrewsbury. Police have a number of appliances on scene, so please avoid the A488 from the A5, Edgebold roundabout to Pontesbury."
