The town of the future under spotlight

A Civic Society says there should be a more planned approach to the growth of the town in which it is based.

Oswestry's Civic Society is putting forward an alternative future for its market town and what it could look like in 2050.

It is calling on people who would like to influence the way the town develops to attend a public meeting on January 25.

The society says its members feel that Oswestry and the surrounding area should be encouraged to grow, and that the growth should take place in a planned manner, rather than haphazardly.

Secretary, Helen Roberts, said: "It is our view that this requires a longer term vision than Shropshire Council presently uses.

"We do not have the power to make plans, but the public has the power to ask its elected representatives to take a different approach."

The meeting at Holy Trinity Church in Roft Street will start at 7pm and will look at how to make Oswestry a more vital town with well organised public transport and reduced traffic congestion.
