Letter: Heartened by MP's passion but target wrong
I was really heartened and inspired to see a Member of Parliament going blue in the face with exasperation and indignation at what is going on in this country.
Whatever our political beliefs we have to trust that they are blowing a fuse because they are passionate in their beliefs and that it may have some impact on our country or on the majority of the people within the constituency, they are paid to serve.
So, it was interesting to see Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski screaming like a banshee through last week’s PMQs (watch it, it is amusing) to the point of him being ridiculed by the Speaker and accused of behaving in a bizarre way, and being told to ‘calm down and get a grip’.
Well, everyone is entitled to be passionate about something and this is what we expect from our MPs.
But, hang on, he was bursting an artery, not about anything of importance to his constituency or country but in the defence of the now-disgraced Tory Chief Whip.
Four weeks ago Mr Mitchell encountered armed police officers who, while on protection duty in Downing Street, had politely refused to open a gate due to security issues. But Mr Mitchell had wanted to use it.
The police were then subjected to a barrage of abuse such as ‘Do you know who I am’, ‘you pleb’, ‘you moron’ alongside a string of foulmouthed expletives.
Well Mr Kawczynski, I applaud your belligerent attitude, and hope you give the same amount of vocal energy to protect the people of Shrewsbury and all who will suffer from the cuts to public services for the disabled, the sick, the unemployed and the vulnerable.
We wait for the same vehemence you gave in the defence of the now thoroughly discredited Right Honourable Gentleman.

Well said, Jackie. The best response to the question, 'do you know who I am?', is, no, do you?' Of course police officers engaged in high level security work could hardly crack that joke!

Sadly the sheer fact he was having a childish tantrum in support of Andrew Mitchell rather suggests he thinks he one of Mitchell's elite.

It does - and if he were my M.P. I would now be asking him to explain himself. Is it any wonder that so many people are so disillusioned with politics?
Shropshire Fights Back
A quick check on the parliamentary standards website shows that he travels first class EVERY time down to Westminster.
He doesn't want to travel with the plebs, of course.

Isn't this rich and yet another example of how out of touch with reality this man is.
When Richard Branson challenged the West Coast trains franchise decision our MP immediately wrote an open letter to Branson chastising him in no uncertain terms, accusing him of amongst other things of undermining First Groups plan to reinstate through trains between Shrewsbury and London. We all now know about the total shambles the Government made of the bidding process and the resulting huge cost to taxpayers. Maybe DK is thinking he'll avoid embarassment over this by hiding from the plebs in his first class coach.

How ridiculous. It's entirely possible to do work in comfort in standard class from Crewe or B'ham to London.

I find it easier, because there's no cutlery clogging up the table space.

He has been rebuked again by the speaker for getting over excited again. This time the speaker suggested an anger management course. Would you trust this man with his finger on a nuclear button?
It must be remembered that the career structure of politicians is very short; Mp to under secretary to junior minister to cabinet minister to Prime Minister. DK is already on his way up, rewarded for his loyalty, and can expect to rise faster after 2015 if he survives the cull. So we can expect him to be Junior Minister or at least a shadow after 2015. Not far to go then.
His Parliamentary record is most noted for failure to attend oversight committees that he was elected to and these violet outbursts. I trust that these things will be considered in 2015 along side his right wing inclinations.

I've copied this comment from the article about our MP Daniel statement saying that.... Veoilia will live to regret their decision.
(A statement which was possibly accompanied by a stamping foot and a wry smile because DK is just trying to get attention please a few of the protesters)
The new Star webpage no longer identifies most commented upon posts in the format that it used to, which is a shame.
Daniel gets a lot more than just 1st class rail travel for being our MP.
Take a look at this link to his declarations of interests and you'll see he can command £300 per hr for his his apparent words of wisdom..

He has his finger in a lot of pies including having friends in Saudi Arabia so this nonsense spouted about Veolia must be part of his Country Bumpkin front!

The First Class Bandwagon now standing at platform one..........

Well they have started to build the incinerator, but I did not see our M.P, lying in the road as promised, perhaps there were no press around !!!!!!!!!!!
Robert Tressell
Perhaps he was lying in a darkened room to recover from his rant, or else the first class seats from London were all full. Can't have him travelling with the plebs now can we.
Jelly
It isn't a first clas road......

Can I lower the tone of this debate? A hippy friend who has unlimited first class travel as part of his job package regularly travels with a cage full of stinky ferrets. Standard is for me!
