Letter: Give Sports Personality of the Year gong to Lord Coe

Our Olympic tennis champion Andy Murray has proposed that, given the great number of British Olympic medal winners, the BBC should dispense with the 2012 Sports Personality of the Year award.

Lord Coe

He has a point. But there is one personality that all our medal winners and Star readers would be happy to see receiving the accolade.

So lets hear it for Lord Sebastian Coe.

I'd rather see the gong go to an amateur athlete who put their life on hold for years and got by on a basic living wage so they could give it their all over a few days during the Summer of 2012. I'm pretty sure Lord Coe would too.

I imagine Lord Coe has already done very nicely out of the olympics already. Please don't count me as one of the Star readers who would like to see him receive it!

I hadn't even thought of Seb Coe but what a good idea. Don't forget he was an amateur athlete so he knows what it takes to win medals in an era of outstanding performances for British middle distance runners.

If the Olympics does leave a legacy like we all hope, what a fitting tribute to Seb Coe this would be, and I guess many people wouldn't begrudge it
