Letter: States on edge of ruin
Greece, Italy, Spain and many European countries are on the verge of ruin.
Greece, Italy, Spain and many European countries are on the verge of ruin.
Spain has 25 per cent of its workforce unemployed.
They will have to make drastic cuts to their frontline services just in order to survive.
They may even have a complete financial collapse.
If the British Labour party had won the last election and carried on with their disastrous policy – the policy Miliband and Balls are demanding Cameron pursues – Britain would be in the same position as Spain today.
The welfare state would have to be dismantled, the health service decimated and all handouts stopped.
Thank goodness for Cameron.
The British people saw the light just in time.

ireland will survive, they are gradually on their way back thanks to billions loaned by our government.
the irish will never be allowed to fail and futher loans are available if necessary. this country owes the republic too much to allow them to go under.

Thank goodness for cameron ??? i think we have many hard line tories who will dispute that claim.
Thank god we never joined the Euro is more apt.
As for
"The welfare state would have to be dismantled, the health service decimated and all handouts stopped"
That comment is funny, but to be honest none of the above will be decimated just stopped .

Rubbish! The reason so many countries are on the verge of ruin is because they are hamstrung by the Euro.
The difference between the parties at the election was to cut 6 billion now or cut 6 billion later, also Cameron is borrowing more than Labour and spending more than Labour. On what can’t imagine because everything seems to be getting cut back to the bone. Cameron is still talking about big government spending High Speed Rail for instance, also despite all the so called cut backs Whitehall is recruiting even more civil servants.

When you say handouts I hope you're not talking about the informative leaflet type. I use handouts when I'm conducting poetry seminars and would not like them banned.

As a Spanish native, I agree. If you had continued with the disastrous policies of Miliband (militant!) and Balls we would have NO welfare state or health service. I would not be able to live here on housing benefits while I wait for the right job to come up and I would still probably be obese without the NHS fitting my gastric band. This is a great country and I will miss it when I move back to Spain when our economy is better.
