A record crowd flocked to the Bucks Head, Wellington, on Good Friday in the 1934-1935 season when Wellington Town played Shrewsbury Town. The match was on April 19, 1935. The band entertaining the crowd was that of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry who stopped off during a march from Lichfield to Hereford. The crowd was nearly 13,000, a record for the time, but exceeded in the late 1940s.
