Cartlidge House in Oakengates will soon close its doors for the last time as bosses at Accord Housing Association say the building is “no longer fit for purpose”.

The Charlton Street accommodation has been home to many residents throughout the years, and an event attended by Oakengates mayor Councillor Stephen Reynolds was held to thank staff for their efforts.

Residents at the home were also bid farewell, as they move to the housing group’s two other care homes located in the borough.

Maxine Espley, executive director of care and support at Accord Housing Association, said: “We are really pleased that the mayor has taken the opportunity to acknowledge the wonderful care and support Cartlidge House has provided to the local community for the past 40 years.

“We are very proud of the whole team and the fantastic care they deliver to our residents.”
