Bennett House, in Woodside, and Faycroft, in St Georges, received the ratings from the Care Quality Commission following recent inspections.

Both were rated "good" for providing caring, safe, effective, responsive and well-led services.

In a newly-published report, inspectors said medicines at Bennett House were safely managed, people felt safe and were treated with respect and systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service.

The report said: "People living at the service told us that they felt safe and that they could speak to staff if they had any concerns.

"Risk assessments were used which helped to ensure people's care and support was delivered in a way that kept them safe.

"People received support from staff who had received training that enabled them to be effective in their roles."

Inspectors were also told there were enough staff to keep people safe and be able to spend time with people.

The report said: "We saw there were enough staff on duty throughout the day of the inspection to meet people's needs in a timely manner."

At Faycroft, inspectors said staff understood how to protect people from the risk of harm and showed compassion and kindness. The report said people were supported to follow their interests and were involved in decisions about their care.

The report added: "People received effective care and support. People told us staff understood their needs.

"Some people were able to express their views and be involved in decisions about their care and support while other people had some difficulties in expressing themselves. Staff had developed ways to work with people to find out what they wanted."We saw staff offering people choices throughout the day and using different communication methods for people who were unable to speak."

Inspectors also said people had their privacy and dignity respected.

The inspections were both carried out in July.

During the visits, inspectors spoke to residents, their relatives and staff.

They reviewed records relating to medicines, care, recruitment and complaints.

Bennett House, in Park Lane, Woodside, is a residential home that provides personal care and accommodation for up to 45 older people, most of whom are living with dementia.

Faycroft, in New Street, St George's, provides accommodation and personal care for up to six people with learning disabilities.
