Telford hospital parking machines chaos

Patients and visitors to a Telford's Princess Royal Hhospital were hit with delays when problems with new parking payment machines left people queueing for more than 20 minutes to leave.

Visitors reported long queues of cars trying to leave the hospital. The problem started early yesterday afternoon and staff at the hospital said they were working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Tony Lloyd, from Shifnal, who visited the hospital with his daughter for a podiatric appointment, said: "All the machines were down, it was chaos.

"My wife was waiting 20 minutes in the queue just to pay so we can get out.

"I don't know what has gone wrong, but somebody has gone all along the line of the car park writing down the registration numbers."

The new numberplate recognition car parking system was only launched at the hospital at the start of this month.

The numberplate recognition system has been in operation at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital since 2013 but only recently came into effect in Telford.

Julia Clarke, director of corporate governance at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: "We are aware that some visitors have experienced difficulties with paying for parking at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

"We have asked CP Plus, which manages our car parks, to resolve the issue today.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused for some visitors to the hospital."

While the issue is being sorted, visitors are encouraged to pay for their parking by visiting sathparking.co.uk
