Advice packs have been sent to people living close to the Coal Brook in Coalbrookdale, Telford, urging them to make their own flood action plans.

And an information session will be held in the coming weeks to enable homeowners to get advice from experts about how to protect their belongings in the event of a flood.

The warning has been issued after officials at the Environment Agency carried out a study which showed the homes were at risk.

It comes after people living in Coalbrookdale were evacuated from their homes after the brook flooded in September last year.

Jessica Campbell, spokeswoman for the Environment Agency, said: "Coalbrookdale has been identified as an area at risk of flash flooding and we have been in the area to promote awareness. Residents have been issued with packs of information.

"We are aiming to hold a drop-in session in May to raise awareness, encourage the community to take an active part in writing a flood plan and to answer any queries they may have."

A Environment Agency leaflet sent out to residents stated: "Your area is at risk of flash flooding. We work hard to try and pinpoint where flash floods are likely to happen and have identified that your community is at risk."

Residents are being encouraged to create their own personal flood plan which they are advised to keep safe as there is no flood warning service covering that area.

Environment Agency staff are due to attend the information event together with representatives from Telford & Wrekin Council and other organisations. A date and location is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to be held next month.
