Officers say they received a complaint that the boy was asked at about 5pm on Saturday if he wanted a lift by the male passenger of a grey or silver Skoda, while he was walking alone along the pavement in Erw Wen in Welshpool.

The boy declined the offer and the vehicle, which was being driven by a female, then drove off.

There are no descriptions available of the couple and police are asking the public for any information if they were in the area at the time.

Last year a number of suspicious incidents were reported on the Shropshire/North Wales border, including the attempted abduction of two schoolchildren in Oswestry and Weston Rhyn in October.

While in November police were investigating after a schoolgirl reported being followed by a man who got out of a black van in the Lloyds Lane area of Chirk.

At the time police assured the public they had ramped up patrols in the area in a bid to allay the public's fears.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "No further reports about this vehicle have been received.

"These incidents are rare and we would ask people, if they do occur, to immediately inform the police. If anyone may have seen this vehicle in the area then please contact 101."
