Driver freed and taken to hospital after Oswestry A5 crash

A driver had to be released from his car and was taken to hospital with neck pain following a four-vehicle crash n the A5/A483 Oswestry bypass today.

Westbound traffic was diverted through the centre of the town as emergency services worked to release the man and clear up the debris of the crash.

Many roads in the town came to a standstill following the accident at 11.45am

The driver was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with neck pain.

A fire and rescue service spokesman said: "We released the man and put him on a spinal board as a precaution."

Five fire crews were been sent to the crash

This afternoon one fire engine from Ellesmere was called to a collision between a motorbike and a car on Whitchurch Road.

Fire crews were called at about 2pm to deal with the fuel spillage. They left at about 2.15pm.

The Midlands Air Ambulance was called but was not required.

Elsewhere today, police were called just before 6.30am this morning to a collision involving a blue Renault Megane on Grange Road, Ellesmere.

Officials say no injuries were reported and an ambulance was not called.

The road was slightly blocked but cleared by 8am.
