An investigation into the disappearance of a Shrewsbury man who has been missing for more than 10 months is continuing and remains a "top priority" according to police.

Russell Blent was last seen in the town on March 17 last year.

Police have carried out a number of searches, appeals, and leaflet drops, but have so far been unable to locate the missing 35-year-old.

In August last year they revealed fears that Mr Blent may have been murdered.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson, who is leading on the investigation to find Mr Blent, said the case is still one of the force's priorities.

He said: "Our inquiries into the disappearance of Russell are very much ongoing and we consider establishing his whereabouts a top priority."

DI Jamieson issued a renewed appeal for information over Mr Blent's disappearance, and said that his family are "desperate to find him".

Mr Blent was reported missing on April 9 last year, but was last seen at 12.30am on March 17, close to the Meole Brace roundabout.

He is described as white, about 6ft 1ins, of a heavy build with short dark hair. He was wearing blue jogging bottoms, a grey jacket and blue and white trainers.

Police have searched woodland in the Meole Brace area and appealed to householders to check sheds, garages and outbuildings for evidence that someone had been sleeping rough.

Mr Blent who is also known to use the nickname 'Gudge', has the initials THFC – for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club – tattooed on the knuckles of his left hand.

In an interview last year DI Jamieson said: "This is completely out of character for Russell and as such we have real concerns regarding what has happened to him.

"We know he has failed to do the things he would normally do, such as collect his benefits, or attend various locations as a part of his daily routine.

"In the days leading up to Russell's disappearance we know he spent some time in Bridgnorth and travelled to and from there several times, sometimes using the bus. Other times he got a lift and we would like to hear from anyone who gave him a lift to get in touch.

"I can not rule out that his disappearance is not the result of foul play."
