Anthony Bangham had served as deputy chief constable since 2014 before being promoted to chief constable last year by the force's new crime commissioner John Campion.

Now a job advert has gone out advertising the deputy role on a five-year fixed term, with an annual salary of £119,430.

It says the chief constable is looking for an "energetic and innovative individual" to work in a "unique model of policing" as a result of West Mercia's alliance with Warwickshire Police.

The advert continues: "The successful candidate will have a key role in commanding critical incidents and be pivotal in providing assurance to the Chief Constable on issues of service delivery, reputation, operational effectiveness and overall efficiency.

"Applicants must be experienced assistant chief constables with substantial knowledge of contemporary policing issues, proven experience of strategic performance management and an outstanding track record of delivering successful change for improved service to the public."

The closing date is noon on January 27. Application packs are available from policerecruitment@westmercia.pnn.police.uk
