A5 blocked near Oswestry after car hits tree

A teenager was taken to hospital after the car she was in collided with a tree on one of Shropshire's busiest road.

The accident happened on the A5/A483 trunk road north of Oswestry just before 2.30pm on Thursday.

Jamie Arrowsmith, from West Midlands Ambulance, said a rear seat passenger, believed to be in her late teens, suffered injuries to her wrist and face. She was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Three fire crews from Oswestry and Wellington went to the scene and discovered that the driver was not trapped as at first feared.

The remained on the scene to make the vehicle safe.
