Police praise fans at Shrewsbury Town v Port Vale

Police did not make a single arrest in relation to Shrewsbury Town's clash with Port Vale.

West Mercia Police stepped up patrols for the game on Saturday, but officers today said they were pleased with how the crowd behaved.

Chief Inspector Steph Brighton, who led the policing operation, said: "I am pleased to confirm that there were no incidents linked to the football game between Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale on Saturday.

"I am glad to say all those involved helped to ensure the event ran smoothly and without any issues.

"If you were at the game or soaking up the atmosphere in the local area I would like to thank you all for working with us to maintain a family friendly atmosphere.

"The policing operation and the event resulted in a pleasant day for those who attended and I hope you all enjoyed the game despite the scoreline."
