The 30-year-old animal was trapped on the grid at Monkhopton.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service was asked to help just after 4pm on Monday.

Three fire crews including the specialist rescue tender went out and the tricky operation to extracate the horse got underway.

Air bags were inflated to take the horse's weight and a special crane was brought in to lift the animal to safety.

The task took almost three hours.

Firefighters in Shropshire have specialist training in animal rescue.
