Shrewsbury River Severn search continues into weekend after reports of a man in the water

A search of the River Severn in Shrewsbury after reports of a man in the water will continue over the weekend.

Specialist emergency service teams including officers with dogs and a drone have been searching riverbanks and the waterways since receiving a report of a sighting of the body of a man on Thursday.

Police were alerted at 4.30pm on Thursday to the possible sighting near Chester Street.

Officers have already conducted extensive searches in and around the river area for several hours over the past two days and will continue over the weekend.

West Mercia Police said there have been no further sightings reported but police want to hear from anyone who has any information or has witnessed anyone behaving suspiciously.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident 488S of 24 November.
