Signs by Powys County Council were put up on the bridge on the B4355 between Knighton to Newtown near Dutlas this evening.

Herefordshire County Council tweeted to warn motorists travelling across the border to drive carefully and be aware of possible diversions.

But a member of staff at the Radnorshire Arms, in Beguildy, who did not wish to be named, said:

"Signs went up in the afternoon but people have been continuing to drive over the bridge without any problems."

Powys County Council was unavailable for comment.
