Car just misses pensioner as it crashes near church

At the same time a car has swerved off the road and crashed through a church's fence backwards, missing a pedestrian by metres.

The BMW went backwards over the wall of Ketley Methodist Church breaking the fence and part of the brick wall.

Church stewards say a man was walking past at the time but was unhurt.

Police attended the scene and waited while a recovery truck took the damaged car away.

There were noticeable skid grooves on the grass verge, where the car had skidded, missing a lamp post by inches.

The car ended up resting with its front on top of the brick wall and its back on the ground below.

It was seriously damaged, including a broken rear bumper, but no one was injured.

Church stewards were just leaving the premises at the time, when they heard a loud bang.

One, who did not wish to be named, said: "We heard a loud bang, then we came around the corner and saw this.

"Three posts are damaged and brick work.

"There was a fella walking past at the time.

"The driver is going to pay for the repairs."

Police said it was lucky the incident did not happen at 9am when children were walking to school.

Meanwhile, just one mile away, another car crashed through a fence on Windsor Road in Arleston after 1pm.

The street was closed both ways due to the incident.

There was also a crash on Rampart Way in Telford, and motorists were urged to avoid the area.
