The woman was treated at her home in Telford before the man was saved from a blaze at a property in Shrewsbury.

Fire crews were called to the woman's home at Majestic Way in Aqueduct after a grill pan caught fire in the first floor flat.

She was given oxygen by firefighters from Telford Central station, who were called to the scene at 4pm, and was later treated by paramedics. The scene was cleared within 15 minutes.

Later three fire engines from Baschurch and Shrewsbury were sent to a fire in Whitehorse Mews, Frankwell, where the man was rescued after a blaze broke out in his kitchen just before 6pm.

Firefighters were at the scene for almost 30 minutes, using hoses and fans to extinguish the blaze.

The man was also treated at the scene by paramedics.

A fire also broke out in a former Telford school.

A small amount of rubbish was set alight in the former Charlton School on Severn Drive in Wellington shortly before 9pm.

Two fire engines were sent from Wellington Fire Station to deal with the blaze, which was put out using hoses within 10 minutes.

The building is currently empty and is in the process of being demolished after pupils moved into a new school on Apley Avenue in June this year.
