Fire crews tackle silage blaze near Market Drayton

Firefighters spent six hours tackling a blaze involving bales of silage near Market Drayton.

It happened at about 10am this morning in Haywood Lane in Cheswardine.

One fire crew from Market Drayton was called to deal with the fire which involved six tons of silage and also trees and undergrowth. They used two main jets and one hose reel jet. The water was supplied via a portable pump from a nearby pool.

A spokesman from Market Drayton fire station said the fire was deep-seated and difficult to access. One side of the road was closed to deal with the fire. The spokesman said: "One fire appliance was mobilised from Market Drayton. Crews used a hose-reel jet.

"It was a fire involving a quantity of silage bales, trees and undergrowth."
