Elderly man airlifted to hospital from Whitchurch after falling awkwardly on stairs

An elderly man was airlifted to hospital after falling on the stairs at a property in Whitchurch.

Two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire were sent to Newport Road in Whitchurch.

It happened just before 1.30pm on Sunday.

Murray MacGregor, communications director for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "An elderly man had fallen on the stairs and was in an awkward position requiring additional staff to get him out safely so a second ambulance crew was sent along with rapid response vehicle.

"He had suffered a broken leg and hip injury.

"Crew requested helicopter due to requiring advanced pain relief to get the man out.

"The aircraft landed at the rugby club

"He was subsequently airlifted to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford."
