Woman's body found after Ironbridge river search

A woman's body has been found after emergency services launched a search of the River Severn near Ironbridge.

A police spokesman said this afternoon: "West Mercia Police can confirm that a body of a woman was found in the Ironbridge area, near Telford, shortly after 4pm yesterday.

"Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service recovered a body from the river in the Coalport area.

"The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and the death is being treated as unexplained."

A river search was carried out in Coalport on Thursday after reports that someone had been seen in the water.

Four fire appliances, including the water rescue unit were sent to the scene from Shrewsbury, Telford Central and Wellington.
