Shropshire firefighters tackle 200 tonnes of blazing hay

Firefighters have spent almost nine hours battling a fire involving 200 tonnes of straw bales.

Four crews including teams from Market Drayton, Wem, Shrewsbury, Hodnet, Prees and Wellington were sent to the scene at 2.30am today.

Crews have been using hoses to protect neighbouring trees and bales close to the fire on City Road, Ellerdine Heath, near Telford.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service control room says crews were still on scene but are starting scaling back. The fire was starting to burn down.
