Police investigate industrial wheelie bin blaze in Oswestry alleyway

An industrial wheelie bin has again been involved in a fire in an alleyway in Oswestry.

Firefighters from Oswestry went to the Clawdd Du alley in the town centre at 3.50pm today where they found the bin on fire.

They brought the blaze quickly under control and used drag hooks and a thermal image camera to ensure the fire was out.

Police are investigating the fire.

In 2004 a family of four was trapped in a flat when blazing bins in an alleyway off Cross Street blocked their escape route from their home.

Earlier this year Oswestry Chamber of Commerce raised the continual siting of industrial wheelie bins in the alleyway with Shropshire Council. It said it had written to households and businesses reminding them of the waste collection arrangments.
