One airlifted to hospital after crash on A49 near Shrewsbury

A serious crash involving a 4x4 towing a horse box  closed the A49 near Shrewsbury  - with one casualty being airlifted to hospital.

Another person has also been taken to hospital by land ambulance.

The A49 was still closed on Monday morning for repairs.

As well as two casualties requiring emergency care, specialist fire crews from Wellington fire station were called to the scene to help move the horse that was being transported from its damaged horse box into a new one.

The accident happened just before 8pm on Sunday night on the A49 at Longnor near Dorrington.

It is not yet known the nature of the injuries but the accident was described as "serious" by West Mercia Police.
