Pictures: Series of Shropshire crashes causes rush hour delays

Drivers escaped serious injury in a series of accidents on wet roads today.

Four vehicles were involved in a collision on the A5 at Montford Bridge north of Shrewsbury this, while two cars ended up on their roof in two separate accidents, one near Shrewsbury, the other near Newport.

Steady drizzle and wet greasy roads took motorists by surprise with police urging them to take note of weather conditions.

The accident on the A5 at the junction with the A458 happened at 6.20am. Vehicles involved included a van which ended up on the verge.

Shrewsbury policing unit said: "There were four very lucky drivers - a lot of metal damage but only minor injuries. Please drive to the weather conditions."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said that one patient suffered a shoulder injury and another a head injury and they were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Just after 6.30am a driver lost control of a saloon car on the Newport to Woodseaves road just across the Shropshire/Staffordshire border. The car ended up on its roof completely blocking the A519. The ambulance service said one person was checked over at the scene but did not need hospital treatment.

A teenager male driver was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with cuts to his head when his car landed on its roof after he lost control of the vehicle in Huffley Lane, the Shrewsbury to Baschurch Road. The crash happened at 7.30am.

The accident partially blocked the road, just off A528 Ellesmere Road, for a short time..
