Girl, 17, sexually assaulted in Wellington town centre

A teenage girl has been sexually assaulted in Wellington town centre where a man forcefully kissed her.

The assault happened at 3.30pm on Church Street as the victim was walking past the NatWest bank.

The 17-year-old became aware of someone behind her and as she neared the bank the man tapped her on the shoulder. As she turned around, he kissed her forcefully.

The girl pushed the man off and ran away.

The man is described as white, around 5ft 8ins tall and between 17 and 18-years-old. He has short black hair with a small amount of facial hair and is of a medium build. At the time of the incident he was wearing a grey T-shirt and shorts.

Investigating officer, PC Robyn Snade, said: "I would encourage anyone who witnessed this incident to get in touch with police.

"We want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have seen a man of this description.

"This is believed to be an isolated incident and we want to reassure the community we are doing everything we can to find the suspect ."
