Man survives after being hit by train as he crossed the line in Shropshire
A man has incredibly survived, but is seriously injured, after he was hit by a train as he crossed a railway line in Shropshire.
The incident happened at about 7.40am this morning at the Stokesay Bridge junction near Craven Arms by the Holyhead to Cardiff Arriva Trains Wales service.
An ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a trauma doctor on board were sent to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The man, who was in his 40's, was using a dirt track that crosses the railway line about three miles south of Craven Arms.
"He was found at the side of the railway line with multiple injuries but fully conscious. The train had not stopped.
"He was treated at the scene by ambulance staff and the doctor before being airlifted to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
"On arrival he was thought to be in a serious but not life threatening condition."
A British Transport Police spokesman said: "The man, who is believed to be aged 46, was treated at the scene for his injuries by paramedics and subsequently airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
"Officers are currently in the process of tracing his next of kin."
Trains were delayed and cancelled throughout the morning.
