Driver forced police car off flooded road causing it to ROLL on its roof near Shrewsbury

A driver forced a police car off the road in flood water near Shrewsbury causing it to mount a verge before crashing into a fence and rolling onto its roof.

West Mercia Police is appealing the driver who failed to stop following the incident on the A488 near Clanbrook Leacross to come forward.

It happened at about 7.20pm last night and involved a marked police car, en route to an emergency call in Pontesbury, and a silver MK4 VW Golf travelling in the opposite direction.

A police spokesman said: "The Golf is believed to have crossed onto the opposite carriageway whilst driving through flood water.

"The police driver took evasive action and mounted the verge, colliding with a fence before come to a rest on its roof in a field."

The silver Golf failed to stop at the scene. A witness states the driver is believed to be a woman.
