Homes and businesses evacuated in Market Drayton fire

Around 15 homes and businesses were evacuated and a 200 metre cordon set up after a fire broke out involving gas cylinders at a commercial property in Market Drayton.

Firefighters were called to Minshall Construction on the Adderley Road Industrial Estate shortly before 1pm on Monday.

Crews from Market Drayton, Prees and Shrewsbury were called to the incident on Bert Smith Way which involved highly flammable acetylene and oxygen cylinders.

Four police cars stopped traffic from entering the estate. Officers then told nearby householders to leave their properties.

Staff and customers were also evacuated at the nearby Morrisons supermarket in Maer Lane along with employees from food factory Palethorpes.
