Six vehicles in Shrewsbury rush-hour crash

Motorists faced rush hour disruption today after a six-car smash on the A5 near Shrewsbury.

The accident happened near the Preston Island at about 7.40am causing traffic tailbacks along the A5 and back into Shrewsbury.

No-one was injured in the collision.

The vehicles involved included a Peugeot, a Ford Mondeo, a Skoda, a Toyota and a Volkswagen.

Motorists faced delays along the A5 and London Road as one lane of the road was blocked.

Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "The accident was reported to police at 7.40am.

"No-one was injured in the collision

"One lane was obstructed for a short time but the road was cleared by 8.15am.

"Although it involved multiple vehicles it was a minor accident."

He added: "It happened at quite a busy time and did cause a hold up in the traffic but the vehicles were moved quickly and the road was cleared in about half an hour."
