MP Dunne gets job in Cameron’s top team
Friday 14th May 2010, 10:53AM BST.
Shropshire MP Philip Dunne was today appointed a Government Whip as David Cameron put the finishing touches to his coalition top team.
The Ludlow MP said he was “delighted” with the role and was looking forward to working with his Liberal Democrat counterparts in keeping their respective MPs in line.
The role of the whips is even more vital under the coalition as every vote counts to get policies approved.
The 51-year-old Conservative MP had been a member of the Work & Pensions, Treasury and Public Accounts committees, before being appointed an opposition Assistant Whip in October 2008.
Mr Dunne said of the promotion: “I am delighted to be invited to join the Government as a Whip.
This will be an unusual Parliament for the Whips’ Office working in close cooperation with our coalition partners.
“We will all have to learn new protocols and ways of working together.
“I look forward to supporting the new Government and helping it get its new legislation through Parliament.
“The first priority is to get the economy moving again and reduce the deficit, so the emergency budget before the end of June will take top priority.
“I don’t know which departments I will be working for at this point, but I thorough enjoyed my work with the Welsh and Communities and Local Government departments in opposition,” added the married father-of-four.

Well done Philip, I’m glad you had a promotion, I would like to thank you for all the help and support you gave a few years back while I was a manager at a residential care home in Bishops Castle. The derelict site opposite the home was transformed into family housing and is now occupied by local families
