School holds its own election

Thursday 6th May 2010, 11:25AM BST.

Adams’ Grammar School in Newport announced their own election results earlier today.

The school went to the polls in their own internal election with sixth form pupils playing the part of candidates from Labour, Conservatives, Lib Dems, UKIP and the Green Party.

Pupils and staff were invited to vote twice: first with one X in the familiar first-past-the-post system, and secondly in order of preference as would be the case in proportional representation.

The outcome of yesterday’s vote saw The Liberal Democrats came out on top in the majority vote, with 286 votes, followed by the Conservatives (232), Labour (128), UKIP (62) and the Green Party (27).

When it came to proportional representation the Liberal Democrats gained 370 votes, Conservatives 194 and Labour 169 votes.
